Re: 5 pillars
Karen,
I did part of the 5 pillars program and loved it. I haven't finished it, but have instead begun the masters program through GWC. Last semester I experienced my first oral exam and survived. I was very nervous, but it was a great experience. I am looking forward to the next one. In fact, I asked my mentor to simulate the oral exam with me more often so that I can get more experience answering those pondering questions more quickly. I think you could do the same, ask the person you report to if she would be willing to do a ten minute oral exam over the phone after you have completed some of the readings. It will give you some experience before you have to sit in one with an exam board. Best of luck and enjoy the journey!

Re: 5 pillars
I finished my 5 Pillar in July, I wrote about that experience on my blog, 10 July
http://donnasjourney.moorhouseacademy.org/?m=200607
I do not live in southern Utah. I had to travel, not as far, but travel none the less. It took me 6 years, partly because I did not get the reading done. Partly because I created and ran a school. Partly because I ran a huge yahoo group. But really, I finish when I got a mind to, and did the work. no one to blame but little ole me. The process was fabulous and I am still learning from it.
Re: 5 pillars
One more thing, I know a woman that set her mind to it and finished he 5 Pillar in 9 months. Many took much less time than I did. So who knows, if you just decided to do it, it would unfold faster than you think. I would not worry bout orals. If you go for your 5 Pillar with the object of learning and being transformed, you will learn and be transformed. When you write your papers, think of how the book transformed you, and how would you share it to others, thus inspiring them. The orals were my fear as well, yet, I knew when I got there thatv they would be transformational, as I entered with that attitude.
Your orals will be awesome. Enjoy the journey!
