Online Book Club

in

I wanted to share a wonderful book club that we've joined http://www.bookclubs4kids.com/ We joined because I wanted to encourage our son to work on book reviews, participate in book discussions and enjoying dialogue with his cousins in Hawaii (who are also in the book club).

We began reading the book, MVP: Magellan Voyage Project by Douglas Evans. Connor has really enjoyed it! My husband and I have enjoyed the story, as well. Two nights ago, after having reading time with Connor, we sent him to bed and then my husband and I read MVP to one another in bed until I couldn't stay awake any longer. My husband stayed up to finish the book.

We're in our 4th week of reading and have won 2 weekly prizes (age appropriate and book related items). One was a monogrammed backpack, like the backpack the main character in MVP has. Another was a bookmark with a timer on it for keeping up with your reading time. One week they gave away a book and CD set for learning French, because the main character was impressed by a girl he met who spoke French.

This book club has been tons of fun for our family, check it out and share it with anyone you know who would like to encourage kids to read.

Book Group 4 Kids

Hi!
I clicked on the link but it didn't seem to take me to the right place??? Not sure how to join and didn't see book reviews. Let me know what I'm doing wrong. :-)

The link works for me...

The website is called 'Book Clubs 4 Kids' so if you click the link and see the banner with those words then you're at the right place.

There is not an official "join" button. Joining is in you jumping in and participating. The way the book club works is you read the current book, listed at the top of the website. On the left side there is an MVP button and that takes you to the latest post about MVP. There is also a post about our current reading schedule and dates: http://www.bookclubs4kids.com/2009/07/does-this-look-familar.html (we're reading 36 pages per week and you can read with your kids, to your kids or they can read alone; there are kids from 6yrs - 12yrs participating, at the moment).

A list of questions are posted on Wednesdays and the kids have until Friday to answer the questions and respond to the other participants posts. For every comment made your name is entered into the weekly drawing. So this encourages the kids to communicate with one another and really discuss the book. At the end of each entry there is a link for comments where you can read other comments as well as post your own.

If you need any other information, let me know!
