Need some guidance...

in

I am new to the TJERefers generally to the concepts presented in the book A Thomas Jefferson Education, written by Dr. Oliver DeMille. We also have an Introduction to Thomas Jefferson Education available elsewhere on this site. way of teaching. With most things I have just always done what I've known. Both my husband and I worked, and I continued to work after our first was born. That was just the way you did things- both parents worked. A friend asked if I ever thought about staying home and the thought stayed with me. After much discussion and prayer, we decided that would be the right thing to do. So now for the first time I am a homemaker. We now have two girls, 2 1/2 and 3 months.

Art to the Art of Provident Living

in

Friends,

Most children are born artists, then many develop fear of drawing by the age of
eight or nine. I believe that drawing is an important core skill, and that
anyone who can write their name, can learn to draw. Even scientists and
inventors can benefit from being able to draw accurate renderings in their
research.

I realize some of you live at a distance, but some of you do live within easy
driving distance.
I am working on how to support those at a distance that would like these
classes, but are too far away. If you know of people that live in driving

6 Month Inventory

in

So here's a confession.

I've been "doing" TJED style learning with my kids for many, many years and have not once done a real 6-month inventory.

Lately, it keeps popping into my brain that I need to do this. Which means I better do it.

Any suggestions? Experiences to share? Basic guidelines?

Thanks,
KELLY

Oldest child (8yo girl) mostly interested in arts

in

I have an 8yo daughter, the oldest of 4, whose interests lie heavily in the arts, for which I have very limited knowledge. I have hooked her up with a theatre group that fulfills her interest for part of the year. But even with that, I struggle to find something to interest her during our schooltime. My other kids delve right into their workbooks or coloring, but she waits. I give her a solid kidschool lesson in various disciplines, and she happily does what I have presented her with, but nothing more. She likes to follow whatever I am doing, but rarely goes out on her own in anything.

TJ Ed for Teens

in

I have been devouring the new book for teens. Absolutely love it! It mentions over and over a website for teens. But I have had no luck accessing it. Is it up and running? Does it have a different address than in the book?

Chemistry - Where to start?

in

My daughter has requested that I teach her Chemistry. Since I haven't even thought of Chemistry since 11th grade, I'd like some ideas on just where to start. Yeah, I know classics... which ones? And what do you do for labs? Is a chemistry set a good place to start, or too juvenile? She's 16 - but we've only done little experiments back when she was young (one of those little things we did in love of learning phase stuck with her - who knew? lol!), so we'll need to start out basic.

Thanks!
Aine
